Thanks, Jack, I appreciate that. I’m very unsure about most of my poems, although this one has elements in it that I think I might even be pleased with. Thanks for the encouragement.
Finding peace in radical acceptance is game changing. It is courageous to face our struggles and come to understand what they are, where they come from, and what we want to change. Thank you for writing this beautiful piece. 🖤
And thank you for taking the time to read the poem, SLAM. I really do appreciate it. And yes, I agree. Sometimes acceptance comes at the worst of times, and there’s obviously a wisdom in that. Especially when the time before was filled with so much anxiety and fear.
And thanks for reading, Scott. And giving such encouraging feedback. This poem kind of came out of nowhere - as so many do - but the ghost of it had been preying on my mind for months. Selflessness is right. And selfishness too, when it's assumed your own troubles are more important than anyone else's - until you're given a sudden awakening.
Thank you, Ingrid! Yes, I think in general I was quite pleased with it because of its simplicity. And it more or less communicated what I wanted to say. It perhaps could do with a little more rigour, but I’ll maybe revise another time.
Lady Mad, thank you for reading! Yes, I have attempted to experiment with different form and rhyme and metre when I began writing on here, some more complicated and with more success than others. I’m learning. I’ve found trying to make something sound natural under such restrictions is quite the challenge. But also, sometimes, such as in this case, it fell into a natural rhyme springing from the first line. Strange how a piece plays out.
I love every word of that! Thanks for sharing :)

"But she smiled despite her own" beautifully captures a sense of motherliness, devoted caregiver, selflessness. Great work. Thank you.

The poem reminds me of the quote, "When someone helps you while they are struggling too, that's not help, that's love."
And it's a wonderful quote, Shaun. I didn't know it. One to remember. Thank you.
Beautiful as ever, love the slow thoughtful pace of this one ❤️
Thank you, Alex. Oddly, this one was much simpler to write, and perhaps, in its simplicity is what makes it a poem I’m happier with generally.
I love this one! Not too cryptic and quite relatable (from both angles).

I love this, thank you so much for sharing! I found the rhyme and rhythm you applied to the piece very satisfying and refreshing

well penned, struggles do fade with time and most times it all comes with lessons. I enjoyed the read :)
Thank you! Yes, struggles can fade. In this case, giving in to the inevitability of a situation. Finding an odd kind of peace in the face of trauma.
